Gallipoli Trench Raid

A game of World War One trench warfare using 'Through the Mud and the Blood' rules by TooFatLardies. Played via Skype using 28mm figures. The remote players shared the ANZAC troops, while I taught them the rules and ran the Turkish forces.
The scenario was a night reconnaissance, with the ANZAC troops crossing No Man's Land to uncover the disposition of enemy forces.

The Turkish forces were initially represented by cards (see the red cards in the first photo). Once spotted by the ANZACs, a card would be turned over. If it represented any troops or leaders, these would be placed on the table.

It all started very quietly, with the Turkish sentries initially failing to spot the quietly moving ANZACs.

This soon changed. The ANZACs started coming under heavy fire as more Turkish troops entered the fray. One unit found the cover of a large shell hole very helpful. Being caught in the open is never good.

Despite some groups being pinned down, some of the ANZACs broke into the trenches. The fighting was fierce. But they gained the upper hand long enough to finish their recon and head back to their own trenches.

Some of the ANZACs successfully returned with the vital information, but casualties had been heavy on both sides.

A fun game which worked well via Skype.

Trenches, barbed wire bases and shell holes were 3D filament printed. Double-wrapped security wire is used to represent the barbed wire. It is soaked in sepia ink to give it that rusty look.
